Full Time position working at Northwest Medical Center Houghton

The Surgical Tech in the Operating Room at Northwest Medical Center, assists surgical team during operative procedures by arranging and inventorying sterile set-up for operations and passing items to doctors and nurses as needed and assists in preparing and moving patients and in cleaning the operating theater.

Works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assists in preparing rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment. Assists with opening sterile supplies, sets up for procedures and maintains an orderly surgical field. Adequately prepares for procedures/surgeries and anticipates physician's needs during procedures/surgeries. Accepts and properly identifies any medication or solution onto sterile field. Handles specimens/cultures according to policy. Performs sponge, instrument and sharps counts according to policy. Assists with care and  maintenance of department equipment, instruments and supplies and returns all to proper locations. Performs other job duties relevant to the position as assigned.

 

Position Qualifications/Minimum Requirements

Education: Required: Completion of accredited Surgical Technician program
-OR- 2 years of on-the-job training
-OR- 7 years of experience working in the field
-OR- Military training program with 2 years surgical tech experience"

 

Experience:

Required for Surgical Tech: 2 years previous experience 
Preferred for Surgical Tech: Previous experience as a Surgical Technician."
Skills: Ability to read, communicate, and document effectively through oral, written, or electronic means. Excellent skills in customer relations. Ability to prioritize and respond promptly to a changing workload. Ability to respond to multiple situations and questions that require sound judgments and action for quality patient care.

Licenses/Certifications:

Required: BLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C)
