Job Description

FT day shift position at Houghton Hospital lab for phlebotomist / lab aide. Collects patient blood samples via venipuncture, performs receipt of tests and order entry, assists with testing under supervision of technologist. Prepares microbiology samples for culturing. Assists customers with information regarding laboratory testing.

Job Summary

Collects patient blood samples using lab procedures. Performs procedures for culturing and preparation for microbiology testing. Collects and labels all specimens requiring testing in the clinical laboratory. Performs order entry of tests as necessary. Ensures that specimens are routed to appropriate areas for testing. Assists technologist in performance of laboratory work, including testing.  Assists customers with information regarding laboratory testing in a professional manner. Requires one year previous phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting OR student externship at a Northwest Healthcare facility. Familiarity with medical terminology is expected, as well as excellent customer service and computer skills. Familiarity with Cerner lab information system is a plus.

Position Qualifications/Minimum Requirements
Education: Required: High School diploma/GED or equivalent experience
Experience: Required: One year previous phlebotomy experience in a health care setting OR student externship at a Northwest Healthcare lab
Skills: Ability to read, communicate, and document effectively through oral, written, or electronic means. Phlebotomy, medical terminology, computer experience, and excellent service skills. Demonstrates the constant ability to prioritize and respond promptly to a changing workload.
Licenses/Certifications: "Required:

HOU, OVH, Sahuarita, Urgent Care - American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross(ARC) or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) BLS
Skilled Nursing Unit: Fingerprint Clearance Card"
