Job Description

Coding Consultant will review medical records, verify coding accuracy and provide a summary of findings. Assist with Corporate reviews by abstracting and coordinating medical records as needed. Assist with presentation of educational information to Providers and Staff, through teamwork and communication, to ensure that education is inclusive of information needed to improve or maintain quality scores. Will work as a coding contact and resource for billing office and clinic employees.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

CPC or CCS Certification required . CPMA preferred but not required.

Experience

 3-5 years of coding/billing experience.  Proficient with ICD-10, HCPCS and CPT coding.  Strong knowledge of guidelines for Medicare, Medicaid, and Managed Care plans preferred.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Continuing education to keep up to date with current training and practices in coding is recommended.

Job Knowledge and Skills:

Requires well developed organizational skills and basic office operations to assure appropriate documentation and follow-through to meet the provider, department, and organizational needs. 

Must be willing to travel to various Lutheran Health Physician offices regularly; up to 100 mile radius of Fort Wayne.   

Detail oriented, exhibiting a high degree of accuracy and working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.

Comprehensive understanding of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS coding manuals and billing guidelines. 

Demonstrates well developed interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact effectively with internal and external customers. 

Must demonstrate ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment where the ability to meet deadlines is a must with constant communication required. 

Demonstrates proficient computer skills including accurate data entry into Microsoft Excel, as well as documentation and communication through Microsoft Outlook.
