Chief Medical Officer
Under the broad direction of the CEO, the Chief Medical Officer provides professional guidance to hospital administration and the Board on matters relating to medical care and the medical staff, including physician business relationships and employed physicians. Provides liaison, in cooperation between medical staff services, administration and the Board. Promotes clinical excellence, exceptional patient service, and demonstration of quality by all medical staff members. Reports directly to the CEO.
Position Qualifications/Minimum Requirements
Required - Graduate of an accredited medical school with an M.D. or D.O. degree and completion of an accredited residency program.
Preferred - Masters degree in medical management, business, healthcare administration or public policy.
Required - Five (5) years clinical or administrative experience in increasingly responsible roles with elected medical staff, ideally including Chief of Staff, President of medical staff, or department chair.
Demonstrates extensive knowledge of patient care policies, procedures, and related equipment, as well as related medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations governing the operation of hospital and medical staff. Demonstrates a high level of administrative and analytical skills necessary to direct and coordinate the activities of the medical staff to ensure compliance with medical staff and corporate wide regulation in regard to the provision of quality medical care, strategic planning and resolution of complex technical and administrative problems. Knowledge of management theory and practice to provide effective direction of medical staff program. High level of interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
Required: Board certified with maintenance of certification in medical specialty (in accordance with local medical staff bylaws), with current licensure by the state of Arizona as a physician.
