Biomedical Manager
Job Description
The Biomed Manager position will oversee biomedical operations for CHS in the Tucson area.
The Biomed Manager will work with the Director of Facilities at Northwest Medical Center and onsite technicians at four local hospitals to maintain the biomedical equipment. The Biomedical Manager will work to ensure all regulatory requirements and compliance goals are met in a timely manner. The Biomed Manager will supervise the Biomed team and manage projects pertaining to medical equipment in the Tucson market. This position will be 50% in the field and 50% in the office.
Work hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm. Hours may flex as projects and emergencies dictate.
Job Summary
The Manager, Biomedical performs evaluations, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance on devices used in the care and treatment of patients at facilities, affiliates, and other institutions that have relationships either owned or contractual. Supervises staff. Participates on EOC Committee. Manages projects. Focuses performance to ensure that all patients receive the safest and best possible experience while at the facilities serviced by the Biomedical Services Program. Works independently with minimal supervision. Delivers exceptional customer service to patients, physicians, nurses, technicians, administrators and all persons who are contacted during the course of their service. Delivers service that meets and exceeds all regulatory requirements and compliance for the position held. Assists Biomedical Services leadership with developing and strengthening facility and vendor relationships. Responsible for executing and meeting all requirements of the established key performance indicators (KPI's).
Essential Functions
- Documents and maintains records of all work activities in the computerized maintenance management software.
- Routinely manages the corrective and preventive maintenance of devices as assigned as well as follow-up communications on this work and any other assigned responsibilities.
- Travels to other sites from primary location as directed/needed.
- Understands and employs all regulatory requirements.
- Understands and properly operates all test equipment required for the repair and maintenance of devices in the Biomedical Services Program.
- Follows all established corporate and local policies and procedures pertinent to the position held.
- Participates in and/or facilitates in-service education to device users.
- Provides cross-training/education to other Biomedical Services team members.
- Coordinates the ordering of replacement parts and/or service on devices. Ensures replacement parts/services are delivered and ensures accuracy of invoicing. Ensures all exchange parts ordered by the technical staff are returned for proper credit within the time frame specified.
- Provides reporting through the use of the CMMS database. Develops dashboards and dashboard components as directed by leadership.
- Develops and/or customizes CMMS reports necessary for all HTM operations.
- Works with Biomedical Services leadership, and facility leadership/coworkers to effectively manage the program and deliver the results and expectations for program excellence.
- Develops and sustains vendor relationships, as well as coworker relationships.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree Biomedical Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, military school biomedical graduation OR at least 5 years of experience in healthcare technology management in lieu of degree required
- Bachelor's Degree Biomedical Electronics or Electrical Engineering Technology preferred
- 3-5 years healthcare technology management required
- 1-3 years Biomedical in a healthcare setting preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Extensive experience with healthcare technology management programs
- Ability to supervise subordinates
- Manages projects including device acquisition and installation and/or EOC committee assignments
- ACI Certification preferred (CBET, CRES, CLES or CHTM)
- Must possess skill-set of advanced modality HTM expertise such as clinical laboratory, medical imaging, radiation/oncology, real-time location systems, alarm management middleware or high-end biomedical devices such as device integration/networking, catheterization lab/electrophysiology monitoring systems
- Medical equipment knowledge (manufacturers, models, modalities, capital planning, etc)
- Understanding of regulatory requirements of medical devices (CMS, TJC, CLIA, AABB, NRC,State, Local)
- Advanced/Strong computer skills (proficient with Microsoft products), experience with CMMS products
- Strong planning and organization skills. Excellent verbal, written, communication and presentation skills
Licenses and Certifications
- CBET - Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician or related certification preferred
